Maria welcomed Heartburn Cancer UK to Westminster today, meeting with constituent Beryl Huntingdon at the charity’s ‘Battle Bus’, which was parked at Old Palace Yard. Maria said: ‘It is great that Heartburn Cancer UK have come here today to raise awareness of Oesophageal Cancer which is the fifth biggest cancer in the UK. Getting early treatment is vital yet most people are unaware of the symptoms. Here in the UK we have the highest number of incidences of Oesophageal Cancer in the world but research lags twenty years behind that in other cancers." 

MARIA MILLER, MP CONGRATULATES SOUTH VIEW JUNIOR SCHOOL

SOUTH VIEW JUNIOR SCHOOL in Basingstoke has won a prestigious national award worth £1,500 for its Breakfast Club. The breakfast club attended the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament yesterday, where they were presented with their award by Sharon Hodgson MP, Chair of the School Food All Party Parliamentary Group. South View was chosen as the winner of the £1,500 prize after the panel of judges was impressed by the way the school used its club to accelerate pupils’ progress with reading.

Maria Miller has visited the South Central Ambulance Service’s offices at Otterbourne, near Winchester, for an update on the Ambulance Service’s operations, and to meet staff in the Control Room handling emergency and other calls.
