MARIA MILLER, MP SUPPORTS NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE

Maria met the teenagers taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) scheme at the Basingstoke College of Technology where they were planning their activities aimed at raising funds for Naomi House, St Michael’s Hospice and Anna’s Challenges, a charity for cildren with Cystic Fibrosis.

Maria commented; “It is tremendous to see how the support for this event has gone from strength to strength. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic participants and organisers. The Basingstoke and District Disability Forum should be congratulated on ensuring that this event is such a success.”

Maria met with Basingstoke Town Ladies Football Club (BTLFC) to celebrate their league victory. Maria commented:  “Basingstoke Town Ladies FC’s promotion from Regional football into the Premier League is an outstanding achievement.

MARIA MILLER, MP SAYS NO MORE DELAY TO NEW ROOKSDOWN GP SURGERY

Maria said: “Residents are right to be angry at the delay in starting work on a permanent GP surgery. Rooksdown residents have endured a catalogue of delays to essential local services being established as a result of poor planning when the main estate was started more than 10 years ago. Maria said: “We are very fortunate to have St Michael’s Hospice here in Basingstoke. Whenever I visit the Hospice, there is always something new to see or hear about.” 

MARIA MILLER, MP ATTENDS LAUNCH OF GVS TRAINING AT BCOT

Maria attended the launch of Global Vocational skills (GVS) training at Basingstoke College of Technology. The new technology is used in conjunction with traditional teaching methods aimed at ensuring that pupils excel in their vocational training courses.

MARIA MILLER, MP MEETS FIRST GROUP, BIDDERS FOR THE LOCAL RAIL FRANCHISE

Maria said: “I had already met South West Trains, and wanted to make sure that the other bidder for the franchise, First Group, had a good understanding of what Basingstoke rail users want from the new franchise.” Maria is pictured with Mark Wilkins from First Group.

MARIA MILLER, MP CAMPAIGNS TO TACKLE ONLINE ABUSE AND TROLLING

Maria said "We have seen a significant increase in the number of incidents of online abuse and trolling. The complex set of existing legislation makes it difficult for the police to take meaningful action when victims report online abuse.
