MARIA MILLER, MP CONGRATULATES SOUTH VIEW JUNIOR SCHOOL

SOUTH VIEW JUNIOR SCHOOL in Basingstoke has won a prestigious national award worth £1,500 for its Breakfast Club. The breakfast club attended the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament yesterday, where they were presented with their award by Sharon Hodgson MP, Chair of the School Food All Party Parliamentary Group. South View was chosen as the winner of the £1,500 prize after the panel of judges was impressed by the way the school used its club to accelerate pupils’ progress with reading. 

MARIA MILLER, MP VISITS AMBULANCE SERVICE

Maria Miller has visited the South Central Ambulance Service’s offices at Otterbourne, near Winchester, for an update on the Ambulance Service’s operations, and to meet staff in the Control Room handling emergency and other calls.

After campaigning for improvements, Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has welcomed the announcement of timetable changes by South West Trains that will increase the number of passengers that trains can accommodate in peak times.

MARIA MILLER SPEAKS AT 40th ANNIVERSARY OF WAMT

Maria was delighted to speak at the 40th Anniversary Reception of Women and Manual Trades. WAMT was the first group formed by women to promote working in construction and building services as a positive and enjoyable option for women.

MARIA MILLER, MP CALLS FOR NEW "COMMUTERS' CHARTER".

Maria has been campaigning to secure the investment needed to tackle overcrowding on trains operating on the main line from Basingstoke into Waterloo, and also to get improvements in customer service.  Maria said: “My main focus is on improving the lot of commuters from Basingstoke, who regularly have to put up with standing room only for up to an hour, on both their morning and evening journeys. We already need 20% more space on trains at peak time to cope and by 2043 trains through Basingstoke will need 60% more space because of new housing being built.

Maria Miller, MP Joins Parliamentary Inquiry into House Building Standards

As Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment, Maria helped launch the APPGs 4th Inquiry yesterday (16th November 2015). Evidence sessions are being held in Parliament to examine the Quality of New Build Housing in England and the potential for improving every aspect of the product handed over to new home-owners.

Maria welcomed Spotlight to Westminster to present founder Michaela Riley with a Parliamentary Award. Maria nominated the charity for the “Inspire the House” Awards run by Kids Count and the Basingstoke Charity won “Best Community Group.” 

MARIA MILLER, MP TO SUPPORT NEW HOUSING BILL IN PARLIAMENT THIS WEEK

Maria will be supporting the new Housing Bill this week, which will support the Conservative Party’s important General Election Manifesto pledge to help more people have a home of their own. More people will have the 'Right to Buy' their Housing Association homes, more affordable Starter Homes will be built and there will be more of the 'Help to Buy’ scheme, which has already helped thousands of families to have a home of their own.

Maria Miller MP wins Pink News Member of the Year Award

Maria was delighted to be awarded ‘Member of the Year’ jointly with Ruth Davidson at the annual Pink News awards ceremony last Wednesday. Maria was nominated on the grounds of her new role as Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee. Under her leadership, the committee’s first inquiry has been into the future of trans legislation and policy.
