Monday 27 January marks the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history and is designated as Holocaust Memorial Day.
In the weeks leading up to and after Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, remembering all the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.
The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Dan Putty will mark Holocaust Memorial Day in Basingstoke on Monday 27 January at 10.00am when he will lay a wreath on behalf of the Borough at the Basingstoke War Memorial.
Basingstoke MP Maria Miller said: “ Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides. I would encourage everyone in Basingstoke to mark the day and to join with others to fight against prejudice and intolerance.”
