Meeting Before 2 Metre Rule

Maria Miller MP and Cllr Simon Bound, Chair of Safer North Hampshire, have met with the Donna Jones to discuss crime and issues affecting Basingstoke and Deane. Donna has been selected to stand as the next Police & Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the elections in May 2021.

Maria said, “Whilst Basingstoke is one of the safest parts of the UK to live, we are not immune from crime. Ensuring the Police & Crime Commissioner and the wider police force are aware of issues early on, is key to tackling them. I have worked with Donna in the past, and I know she understands the complexities of the issues affecting some communities in our area. I raised a number of issues with her so together we can start tackling the causes.”

During the meeting a number of issues were discussed including anti-social behaviour, the use of Stop & Search Powers and the effects of the recent gold thefts targeted to specific communities.

Cllr Simon Bound said, “ Crime is becoming more complex; the causes of crime and how to tackle them is changing quickly, so we must make sure we are also adapting and prepared. Prevention is better than cure and being Chair of Safer North Hampshire means I have a detailed knowledge of the local area. By working closely with Donna we can ensure the right levels of police resources are directed to our area.”

Donna Jones said, “ Being the largest Town in Hampshire, Basingstoke has some issues that need addressing. Anti-social behaviour and concerns around drug related crimes, need focus and attention. By reducing Crime in Basingstoke and making the streets safer, will enhance the quality of life of those living in this thriving community.”
