Maria attended the launch of Global Vocational skills (GVS) training at Basingstoke College of Technology. The new technology is used in conjunction with traditional teaching methods aimed at ensuring that pupils excel in their vocational training courses.
The software is used alongside practical on-site training and can be used effectively to both practice skills acquired during lessons and prepare students before practical training. This blended learning means that teaching can be more effective and also accommodates different learning styles. BCOT is using GVS training in a variety of training including, Car Maintenance, Health and Social Care and Hospitality and Catering.
Maria commented; “I saw first-hand how pupils can use this new technology alongside traditional teaching methods to develop their skills. With the help of a student I managed to disconnect a starter motor online and saw how the technology enables students to familiarise themselves with a skill in preparation for the practical task in a workshop. BCOT’s Principal Anthony Bravo has incorporated this excellent resource into the college teaching methods and it was interesting to hear the benefits GVS could bring.”
