Maria attended a celebration to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the North Hampshire Service user Group. The purpose of the Group is to help develop services provided by the North Hampshire Learning Disability Team. Group volunteers help the team by giving them feedback on services; they look at any paperwork from the team and help make it easy-read for other Service Users.
Group members are involved in interviewing for new staff members and in Peer Reviews and advise on what needs to be changed or improved. The group also works with other organisations to help them to understand what it is like to have a Learning Disability.
Maria commented; “The Service user group has provided an invaluable service for ten years. It was wonderful to join in the celebrations. Members of the group are able to improve services for those with learning disabilities and can share their experiences. The volunteers I met can influence the way services work and ensure that people with learning disabilities can be supported in the right way.”
