MARIA MILLER MP IS GUEST SPEAKER AT HAMPSHIRE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENT
Basingstoke MP Maria Miller was the guest Speaker at an event run by the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Basingstoke. Maria was welcomed by the Hampshire Chamber President David Joel and Peter Bartlett, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Maria spoke about Brexit, business in Basingstoke and the record Investment in the town. She then answered questions from a wide range of businesses.
Maria commented; “Businesses want to see Brexit done and they want certainty and no more delay. Basingstoke is one of the top ten centres of employment and we have seen record investment is our schools and roads. We also have a brand new fire station and Police investigation centre. Basingstoke is a great place for businesses and I am constantly struck by the diverse range of SMEs and larger Businesses who have made Basingstoke their home. The dynamism and diversity of our businesses mean that we have record levels of employment in Basingstoke. One of the main problems employers have is recruiting staff and I would encourage employers to look at ways of attracting more women back into the workplace through flexible working. This will release the hidden pools of labour here in Basingstoke and help reduce the significant gender pay gap we see. The Hampshire Chamber offers support to Businesses here in Basingstoke and it was good to meet and discuss what can be done to make Basingstoke an even better place to do business."
