MARIA MILLER MP VISITS DISABILITY CONFIDENT CAREERS FAIR

Basingstoke MP Maria Miller visited a Disability Confident focused Careers Fair at Basingstoke Jobcentre. The Disability Confident scheme supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace.

The event involved a wide range of Disability Confident registered employers including Hampshire County Council, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Sodexo, South Central Ambulance Service, Elite Hotels and many others.  The National Careers Service also delivered employability/disability support sessions for claimants . Also at the event were other supporting organisations such as the Enham Trust and Basingstoke and Deane Disability Forum(BDDF) . Local Housing Associations were also at the event to support their tenants.

Maria Commented;

“ It was wonderful to meet such a wide range of Disability Confident Registered Employers. The Disability Confident scheme helps employers recruit and retain people, and draw from the widest possible pool of talent. Companies can therefore secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hardworking. It also helps customers and other businesses identify those employers who are committed to equality in the workplace. I would strongly encourage more businesses to sign up to the scheme. Disability Confident organisations also play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. For more information visit; https://disabilityconfident.campaign.gov.uk/
