Basingstoke MP Maria Miller visited Buckskin today to see the areas affected by flooding and speak to Council staff and other organisations working at the coordination centre set up at the Ridgeway Centre. With a month’s worth of rain forecast to fall over the next four days, Maria was told that more homes were at risk of flooding.
Maria said: “The priority right now is to ensure that those people affected by the flooding have somewhere to move to and that everything is done to support them at this very difficult time.”
Maria added: “Today I have had the opportunity to speak to residents affected by the flooding, as well as to the police, and Borough Council and Housing Association representatives, to be briefed on the action being taken. I would like to pay tribute to all those people who are working around the clock to support the residents. ”
County Councillor Stephen Reid, who joined Maria this morning, said: “It is really sad to see people’s flooded homes, and the focus is rightly on giving help to affected residents in Buckskin, both those who have already had to evacuate their home as well as those whose homes are at risk.”
Buckskin Ward Councillor Robert Taylor said: “Despite the horror of having their homes flooded, people are all pulling together to help each other out. The Council is facing an uphill battle to clear the water, and everyone involved is doing a great job.”
