Maria Miller MP visited the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop in Basingstoke recently to meet the team and learn more about the work they do. Every penny of profit raised in the BHF shop funds vital, life-saving research into heart disease.
Maria met volunteers and staff at the Wote Street shop, which is the second largest BHF shop in the country. She was given a tour of the shop and behind the scenes, where she saw how donations are sorted before being put out for sale.
Maria said: “It was great to be able to meet some of the dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work in the Basingstoke BHF shop, raising money for such an important and worthwhile cause, which does vital work in the fight against heart disease.
“I was told how generous people are with their donations to the shop. I would urge local residents to continue to donate any unwanted items to the British Heart Foundation and other charity shops, or give the gift of time by volunteering.”
Mags O’Halloran, Area Manager for Basingstoke said: “We’re really grateful to Maria Miller for coming in, visiting our shop and meeting the team.
“We’re always looking for stock donations, which are absolutely essential to the success of the charity, and play a vital part in fighting coronary heart disease – the UK’s single biggest killer. We’re also always looking for more volunteers, so even if you can only spare and hour or two, pop in to find out more information.”
Basingstoke BHF shop is always looking for unwanted items such as clothes, shoes, accessories, books, DVD’s etc. 100% of the profits raised from donations helps the BHF fight against heart disease and fund life-saving research. The shop offers a free collection service, just call on 01256 358387 to book.
