Basingstoke MP Maria Miller, who is also the Minister for Disabled People in the Department for Work and Pensions, is giving special attention to disability issues in Basingstoke. In particular, she wants to hear about any services or facilities that could be made more accessible for disabled people.
Maria is also asking local employers about their policies and practices relating to the employment of disabled people. She has undertaken to use their responses to promote good practice and, where necessary, to explore solutions to any problems.
Maria said: “Disabled people should have the same choices and opportunities as non-disabled people. That includes ensuring that poor design does not prevent disabled people from using local services, facilities and amenities. It also includes making sure that they have the same opportunities to find and stay in work.”
