On the occasion of Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, Basingstoke MP Maria Miller is encouraging everyone to remember victims of the Holocaust and those who lives have been affected by exclusion and hatred.
Holocaust Memorial Day takes place annually on 27 January, the date of the liberation in 1945 of Auschwitz – the largest Nazi Concentration Camp. It is a day for remembering the victims and honouring the survivors of the Holocaust, and those from later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and the ongoing atrocities in Darfur.
Maria said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims of genocide. I would encourage people in Basingstoke to show their support and join with many millions around the world to mark the day. It is vitally important that we both remember and learn from the terrible history of the Holocaust, as well as ensuring that we speak up and speak out against all forms of hatred and prejudice.”
