The award scheme, launched on 14 January, is open to every infant, primary and secondary school in the UK. School Councils are asked to nominate their most successful school council project which has made a difference to the school or community. Four winning schools (in different age categories) will win a day in Parliament, including a tour and awards ceremony with the Speaker of the House of Commons and other MPs. All schools that enter will receive a certificate from the Speaker. The closing date for entries is 30 April 2013, and further details, including an online application form, are available on the website www.speakersschoolcouncil.org.

This is a great opportunity for our schools to shout about their achievements and I hope all of them get involved with the Speaker’s Awards scheme.”
