The Post Office has launched a six week local consultation on its proposals to reopen the Brighton Hill Post Office branch in a new location, at the One Stop shop in Stanford Road. The Brighton Hill branch, previously located at the Brighton Hill Centre, closed in 2008.
Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has long been campaigning for a reinstatement of Post Office services in the Brighton Hill area and has welcomed the Post Office’s announcement of its plans to restore services in the local area.
Maria said: “It is great news that the Post Office is now proposing to restore Post Office services in Brighton Hill. The Post Office provides a vital community service and the lack of services has been a huge inconvenience for the people of Brighton Hill for a considerable time now.”
Maria added: “The Stanford Road location is at the heart of the local community and has a bus service almost to the door. While some people may have preferred a Post Office service restored at Brighton Hill Centre, this proposal seems to present the best possible solution in the circumstances.”
Local residents can have their say on the suitability of the proposed new service and its location during a 6 week consultation period ending on 4 December. The new service would be up and running in January 2014 if the decision is to go ahead.
