Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke, has welcomed news that a 'Community Covenant' will be signed by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and representatives of the charitable and voluntary sectors and other members of the civilian community, and representatives of the local Armed Forces community. The signing will take place at the Borough Council offices after the raising of the Armed Forces flag on 24 June.
The Armed Forces Community Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between the civilian community and local representatives of the Armed Forces. Its purpose is to encourage support for the Armed Forces community working and living in Basingstoke and Deane and to recognise and remember the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces, particularly those who have given the most. This includes in-Service and ex-Service personnel and their families as well as the families of .
Maria said: "I contacted the Borough Council earlier this year to highlight the importance of the Armed Forces Community Covenant, and it is great news that this will be signed during this year’s Armed Forces Week.”
