Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller visited the Tennis facilities at Statton Park. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) have given the go-ahead for work to begin on modernising the courts. Four of the six courts are being resurfaced, repainted and made more accessible to people with a disability. The newly resurfaced courts with new frames and gates will contain remote access systems linked to Wi-Fi and the “Clubspark” online booking system. Two courts will have floodlights for use after dark.

The works are funded by developer contributions, Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

Maria commented; “ It was great to visit the Stratton Park Tennis facilities and see the work being done to make Tennis more accessible for the community. I met with the LTA this week to discuss the “ Clubspark” project. The SmartAccess gate system will mean users can book line and gain access through a unique code. The LTA have also identified other sites which could benefit such as Winklebury. Making sure Basingstoke has first rate, affordable Sports facilities which can be accessed by the community to fit in with busy lives has to be a top priority.”
