Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, has welcomed the new Government website www.police.uk which from this week makes available data maps showing crime and anti-social behaviour at a street by street level in every neighbourhood. This means that anyone can see exactly what crime is happening and where – right down to the level of their street corner. By providing data in a format that anyone can access, local communities will be able to hold their police to account.
Maria said: “We want people to be able to see what crime is happening in their neighbourhoods and to be able to tell their local police if they have concerns and challenge them about how issues are being dealt with. This new website will allow them to do just that.”
Maria added: “The Government is introducing a series of measures as part of our plan to fight crime. Providing this transparent crime information to local communities is part of this and is a major achievement – the first of its kind in the world.”
